Using ZoomIt 1.0 to draw free-hand on the Vega's desktop screen

Sometimes, software upgrade is NOT "Good News" to someone like me.

To use pen input for drawing or writing free-hand on the Vega's desktop screen in various colors, "Zoomit" is an awesome utility by Mark Russinovich . [See screenshot above]

It might take a minute to get used to the ZoomIt Options and hotkeys but once you master that, it's fun all the way. Try this sequence - Ctrl+1 (to zoom the screen), Ctrl+2 (to change the mouse into a screen pen), and finally move the pen pointer across the screen and see the magic. If Zoomit has been updated to V1.52, you can also press "r" to change pen color to red ink (b for blue, g for green, y for yellow).

Zoomit 1.0 offers customizable Pen Color, and erase with escape, not by pressing "E"( impossible task for Vega). Since Vega without full qwerty keyboard, version 1.0 is the only rirght one.

But Google, Yahoo and Live Search returned no result for "Zoomit 1.0" because it's no longer available. Now it's a little hard to find the old version 1.0 of Zoomit.

ZoomIt v1.52: The only way to Change the Pen Color is KEYBOARD INPUT.

ZoomIt v1.15: From this upgrade, erase by perssing KEY "E", not escape.

What's the Best Video Player for Raon Vega? ( RealMedia volume)

Vega does need a player that is capable of playing RealMedia ( RMVB, rm ), low on systems resource and no synchronization problems.

I would recommend it, The KM Player~~~

FREE. Plays almost all video codecs, and has loads of plugins that enhance the video so much.. Very easy to use and has many features that are actually useful. It handles a wide range of subtitles and allows you to capture audio, video, and screenshots. The KM Player to play RMVB is the best choice. Supports Incomplete/Damaged AVI file.

Audio wise, it's just as great, lots of plugins in enhance the audio, 3 types of EQ systems, each with lots of presets, and easy to manage and navigate menus. It's an all in one for me, plus it does not suck up memory. While playing a movie, The KM Player is only at 22k.

Highly recommended.

BTW,

1. ZoomPlayer to play RMVB is another choice, but it drops frames and have audio synch problems. >_<

2. For those player, none of them play DVDs as well as PowerDVD or WinDVD.

Opera's Pure Full Screen Mode, Best to view News, Internet-Video and eBook

When you toggle the Full Screen Mode by pressing F11, all you see is the webspace, with no scrollbars, addressbar or other clutter. They are simply autohidden ! ! !

On full screen mode, Firefox still leaves addressbar, and ie7 still leaves scrollbars.

What's the Best Video Player for Raon Vega? ( AVI volume )

MPlayer~~~, Highly recommended.

FREE ( under the GNU General Public License ), open-source and only consume 40~50% CPU when playing AVI file.

MPlayer is a movie player which runs on many systems. It plays most MPEG/VOB, AVI, Ogg/OGM, VIVO, ASF/WMA/WMV, QT/MOV/MP4, RealMedia, Matroska, NUT, NuppelVideo, FLI, YUV4MPEG, FILM, RoQ, PVA files, supported by many native, XAnim, and Win32 DLL codecs. You can watch VideoCD, SVCD, DVD, 3ivx, DivX 3/4/5 and even WMV movies..

Another great feature of MPlayer is the wide range of supported output drivers.

MPlayer has an onscreen display (OSD) for status information, nice big antialiased shaded subtitles and visual feedback for keyboard controls.

Using flash memory for opera's cache folder

You can opt to have opera cache it's webpages and images and other stuffs, on an SD card or compact flash card or on a keychain drive - a memory card which is permanently plugged in, through one of your usb ports (or pcmcia slot). This will speed up opera, somewhat, while you surf the web.

I assume, as I write this tutorial, that you already have a flash memory card and a reader for this - and that you know fluently, how to plug it into your computer, and use it.

With your flash memory plugged in, when you look in the root of your folder structure, you should see an extra drive letter which corresponds with your flash memory card. Open that drive - and peruse through the folders, and search out whether you have any photos, or other insundry stuffs you would like to move over to your computer - before you let opera use the flash card. Then, create a folder on the card with a name of your choice. In this tutorial, I'll use the name "operacache". Thus, if my flash memory is recognized by the computer as Edrive, then my folder path will be e:\operacache

Next, you want to look through the folder where you installed your opera web browser. Inside, you'll discover an inner folder named "profile", and within that, you will find a file named "opera6.ini". Open it, with a plain text editor, such as notepad.exe. The top lines which you see, ought to be:
//Opera Preferences version 2.0//
//; Do not edit this file while Opera is running//
//; This file is stored in UTF-8 encoding//

Immediately below, you should see a section which is labeled [User Prefs], and just under there, I'll insert a line which reads: cache directory4=e:\operacache, like this:
[User Prefs]
**cache directory4=e:\operacache**
...

Substitute the appropriate pathway which you have chosen, to the right of the equals sign. Save that file, and the next time you use opera, you'll be navigating the internet more smoothly.
notes

1) Oh - and if you forget, and don't have your flash memory plugged into the computer, it's no big deal, opera will simply place it's cache back in it's old location.

2) It's always a good idea to save an archival copy of your opera6.ini file before you edit it, so that if you make an error, you can restore the original file.

3) You'll need to make certain that opera is keeping a disc cache of a size which will fit properly onto the free space of your flash memory card. You can look at the current size of opera's cache allotment, in opera8, in your preferences panels. Run your finger up to your tools menu, choose preferences, touch on the advanced placard, and look at the history section. You'll see a dropdown box, where you can choose the largest size of the disk cache, which is allowed opera. There should be options there, ranging from 2megabytes up to 400 megabytes.

Hack lets you swap VEGA ZIF-disk drive with... SanDisk 32GB SSD

I did put a SSD in the VEGA!

but i can't stress this enough...I don't recomend anyone trying it unless you know the consequences. first of all you are voiding the warranty. secondly, you are risking damaging the VEGA or expensive SSD. which i did. i lost the right speaker but some soldering should fix that. i also slightly scratched the controller board on the ssd - but it still works. on a side note the sandisk ssd uses samsung nands and a m-system controller.

originally i thought the vega used a micro-ATA hard drive but it isn't. it uses a Toshiba ZIF hard drive. the really thin ones as in 5mm thickness.

so the only ZIF ssd's are the SanDisk 32GB. It's thickness is 8 or 9mm. What you have to do is open the ssd and reveal only the flash memory thus reducing the thickness. However, the thickness when naked is probably around 6mm. this doesn't allow a perfect fit into the vega. it actually makes the vega slightly plump but its ok because we are using flash memory and there aren't any moving parts.

the major performance upgrade i see so far is lower heat. battery life seems the same. boot times are similar. slightly faster awake from standby. overall snappier when calling up files. video performance seems better.

is it worth it? probably not for most users. but i enjoy the vega even more.

ps. memory is not upgradable. it's proprietary.

the hdd data transfer rate is 24MB/s tested using HDtune. I think the toshiba hd was around 21. i think its slightly faster. the great thing about ssd is the access times. its 0.2ms i think the cpu is now slowing up the computer overall.

medah4rick, Tuesday, May, 22th, 2007 13:12:39

The model i used is Sandisk SSD UATA 5000 1.8.
i want to make an update to my vega ssd. i like that sound of that VEGA SSD. the sandisk ssd can be further shrunk down to 5mm. i re-opened my vega and found out that i can remove a plastic holder that is sandwiched between the samsung nands and the msystems controller. SO NOW THE SSD FITS PERFECTLY INTO THE HARD DRIVE HOUSING AREA!

on a side note i was experiencing odd behavior from the ssd recently and today i lost the hdd connection. that is why i re-opened the device. what had happened was the controller board lost connection to the samsung nands. in my haste to remove the ssd from its casing i somehow loosened this connection and after weeks of daily use the thing disconnected. so all i did was snap that loose connector back in and now the vega ssd is back. but back better than ever now that i shrunk it down even further!

if i could only have known all this earlier.
